| Open Access | THE ESSENTIAL ROLE OF GRAMMAR IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING: BALANCING ACCURACY, FLUENCY, AND COMMUNICATION
Nozima Abdulatifova , 2nd-year student, Majoring in Philology and Language Teaching at Kokand University, Andijan BranchAbstract
Grammar forms the structural foundation of language learning and effective communication. It is the system of rules that enables speakers and writers to construct meaningful and coherent sentences. This article explores why grammar is essential in learning English, highlighting its role in developing linguistic accuracy, comprehension, and fluency. While some modern language-learning approaches emphasize communication over grammatical knowledge, this paper argues that grammar remains indispensable in mastering English as a global language. It provides learners with the tools to understand sentence structure, express complex ideas, and avoid miscommunication. The research reviews traditional and contemporary approaches to grammar instruction, including inductive, deductive, and communicative methods. It also considers how digital learning platforms integrate grammar teaching in interactive and contextualized ways. The study concludes that grammar is not merely a set of prescriptive rules but a dynamic system that underpins all aspects of language—reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Therefore, a balanced approach that integrates grammatical knowledge with communicative practice offers the most effective pathway to English proficiency.
