Cornelius J. Owor , Department of Languages and Literature, Uganda Christian University, UgandaAbstract
This study delves into the depiction of corporal punishment in Ugandan literature by analyzing its effects on students as portrayed in two selected novels. Corporal punishment, a pervasive educational practice in Uganda, has been a subject of debate globally due to its potential physical and psychological repercussions. By examining the representation of this disciplinary method in literature, this research explores how it shapes students' experiences, perceptions, and long-term outcomes. The analysis draws on a combination of literary criticism and sociological perspectives to shed light on the multifaceted impact of corporal punishment on the characters in these novels and, by extension, on real-life students in Uganda.
