UNVEILING FEMINISM: ANALYSIS OF PHILIPPINE MAINSTREAM SHORT STORIES IN ENGLISH
Jeanne D. Cruz , Graduate School of Mariano Marcos State University, PhilippinesAbstract
This study conducts an analysis of feminist themes in Philippine mainstream short stories written in English, examining how these narratives depict and explore gender dynamics, women’s experiences, and societal roles. Through a close examination of selected texts published in mainstream literary journals and anthologies, the research identifies recurring feminist motifs, narrative strategies, and the portrayal of female characters. The analysis delves into how these stories challenge or reinforce traditional norms and stereotypes, offering insights into the evolving landscape of gender relations and feminist discourse in contemporary Philippine literature. By uncovering the complexities and nuances of feminist perspectives within these narratives, the study contributes to a deeper understanding of how literature reflects and shapes societal attitudes towards gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Philippines.
