EXPLORING PALATALIZATION IN TIV PHONOLOGY: MECHANISMS AND EFFECTS
Bonchance Musa , Department of English and Literary Studies, Federal University Wukari, NigeriaAbstract
This study delves into the phenomenon of palatalization in Tiv phonology, examining its mechanisms and effects within the language's sound system. Palatalization, the process by which a consonant sound changes to a palatal or palatalized sound, is a significant phonological feature in Tiv. The research identifies and analyzes the patterns of palatalization, exploring how this process interacts with other phonological rules and the implications for the overall phonological structure of Tiv. Through a combination of phonetic analysis and theoretical frameworks, the study provides insights into the conditions that trigger palatalization and its impact on morpheme structure and phoneme distribution. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of Tiv phonology and offer broader implications for the study of palatalization in other languages.
