Abstract

This article examines the linguistic and stylistic contribution of Alexander Sergeyevich Griboedov to the development of the Russian literary language. Although his literary legacy is relatively small, the impact of his comedy Woe from Wit on the formation of modern literary norms has been profound. The study explores the historical context of the early nineteenth century, analyzes the innovative linguistic strategies employed by Griboedov, and assesses his influence on the evolution of Russian drama and prose. Special attention is paid to conversational discourse, stylistic hybridity, phraseology, and the formation of a realist linguistic norm. The findings suggest that Griboedov’s work marks a decisive shift toward a national, socially grounded model of the literary language.
