DISSOLUTION OF PHOSPHORITES BY VARIOUS ACIDS UNDER DIFFERENT NORMALITIES

Abstract

The acid dissolution of phosphorite (phosphate rock) is foundational to the industrial production of phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizers. This study critically examines the effects of acid type, acid concentration, and reaction conditions on the dissolution behaviour of phosphorite minerals. Key outcomes include the identification of reaction mechanisms for hydrochloric, sulfuric, and phosphoric acid systems, kinetic controls under varying normalities, and comparative leach efficiencies. Data indicate that dissolution follows multistage kinetics influenced by acid strength, mineralogy, particle size, and temperature. This research consolidates existing knowledge on the acidolysis of phosphorite and underscores the importance of optimizing acid conditions for efficient phosphorus extraction.
