LINGUISTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF FOLKLORE GENRES (FAIRY TALES, PROVERBS, RIDDLES, EPICS, ETC.)

Sharipova Malikakhon Qahramon kizi , Second-year master’s student of the Faculty of English Language and Literature, The University of Exact and Social Sciences.

Abstract

This article examines the linguistic characteristics of major folklore genres including fairy tales, proverbs, riddles, and epics through the lens of structural linguistics, discourse analysis, semiotics, and ethnolinguistics. Folklore, as a collective cultural memory, preserves archaic linguistic patterns, symbolic expressions, and pragmatic strategies that reflect worldview, social norms, and cognitive models. The study analyzes the phonological, lexical, syntactic, and pragmatic features typical of each genre and highlights cross-genre similarities. The findings demonstrate that folklore genres are shaped by formulaic language, rhythm, metaphorical density, and communicative functionality.

Keywords
