THE CAPABILITIES OF LABORATORY DIAGNOSTICS IN ACUTE RESPIRATORY VIRAL INFECTIONS
Atahajiyeva Yorqinoy Nuridinovna , Head Teacher, Department of Nursing, Andijan Abu Ali ibn Sino Public Health Technical SchoolAbstract
Acute respiratory viral infections represent one of the most significant public health challenges globally, causing substantial morbidity, mortality, and economic burden. The accurate and timely identification of the causative viral pathogens is crucial for implementing appropriate clinical management, initiating specific antiviral therapies, and preventing the unnecessary use of antibiotics. This article explores the evolving capabilities of laboratory diagnostics in the context of acute respiratory viral infections following the traditional Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion structure. A comprehensive analysis of various diagnostic modalities was conducted, comparing traditional methods with modern molecular techniques. The review encompasses rapid antigen detection tests, conventional and real-time polymerase chain reaction, multiplex syndromic panels, and emerging technologies such as next-generation sequencing. The findings indicate that while traditional viral culture and serological assays remain important for epidemiological surveillance, they have been largely superseded in clinical settings by molecular diagnostics due to the superior sensitivity, specificity, and rapid turnaround times of the latter. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction panels, in particular, have revolutionized patient care by allowing the simultaneous detection of numerous respiratory pathogens from a single clinical specimen. The discussion highlights the clinical impact of these advanced diagnostic capabilities on antimicrobial stewardship and infection control strategies. Furthermore, the socioeconomic implications of adopting high-cost multiplex testing in resource-limited settings are evaluated. The paper concludes that continuous advancements in laboratory diagnostics, particularly the miniaturization of molecular platforms for point-of-care testing, will play an indispensable role in the future management of respiratory viral outbreaks and personalized patient care.
