This article highlights the essence of the concept of civil society and the role of individual freedom in the formation of civil society. It is emphasized that the foundation of civil society is formed by a conscious, free, and responsible individual with rights. Also, the relationship between the state and citizens in a democratic society, the recognition of human dignity, tolerance, and the importance of citizens' participation in the management of society are analyzed. The formation of a strong civil society in a society with a state governed by the rule of law and free citizens is substantiated.
