Abstract

This article analyzes the evolution of the concept of reading literacy within the framework of international assessment programs (PISA, PIRLS) and its close relationship with critical thinking. Modern education is more complex than simply reading and understanding texts; it requires the ability to critically process information, analyze it, and draw conclusions in uncertain situations. The article highlights the criteria used by the PISA and PIRLS programs to assess critical thinking, the role of these skills in the education system of Uzbekistan, and the prospects for their development.

Keywords
