Abstract

Needs analysis is a fundamental component in the design and implementation of courses in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Unlike general English instruction, ESP focuses on learners’ specific academic, professional, and occupational requirements. This article examines the significance of needs analysis in developing effective ESP curricula, highlighting its role in identifying learners’ goals, selecting appropriate materials, and shaping teaching methodologies. The paper also explores various types of needs analysis and their practical application in course design. The study concludes that systematic needs analysis ensures relevance, enhances learner motivation, and improves overall learning outcomes.
