TEACHING ARITHMETIC WORD PROBLEMS IN PRIMARY EDUCATION BASED ON THE STEAM APPROACH

Abstract

This article analyzes the theoretical and methodological foundations of teaching arithmetic word problems in primary education based on the STEAM approach. It substantiates that the STEAM educational model, through interdisciplinary integration, provides opportunities to connect students’ mathematical knowledge with real-life situations. The paper highlights effective methods of teaching problem-solving, including the creation of problem-based situations, the organization of project-based activities, and the use of technological tools. Furthermore, the study reveals the potential of this approach in developing students’ logical and critical thinking, creativity, independent decision-making, and the ability to solve problems in a comprehensive manner. The effectiveness of STEAM-based lessons, as well as their positive impact on students’ learning activity and motivation, are also analyzed. As a result, it is scientifically justified that the application of the STEAM approach in teaching arithmetic problems is one of the key factors in improving the quality of education.
