Abstract

This paper explores the relationship between pragmatics and word meaning in modern English. It examines how context, speaker intention, and social interaction shape meaning beyond dictionary definitions. The study also discusses key pragmatic theories such as implicature, speech acts, and deixis, highlighting their significance in real-life communication.
