Abstract

The development of physical education and sports in the Republic of Uzbekistan has undergone significant transformations, particularly since the country gained independence in 1991. Influenced by its Soviet-era past, Uzbekistan has focused on building a robust sports infrastructure, implementing government policies, and fostering a culture of physical fitness. The national strategies prioritize the promotion of physical education at all levels, ranging from schools to elite sports academies, while also investing in sports infrastructure across urban and rural areas. Key achievements include success in international competitions, particularly in combat sports like wrestling, boxing, and judo. Government programs aim to improve public health, increase youth participation, and elevate Uzbekistan's standing on the global sports stage. This article examines the evolution of physical education and sports in Uzbekistan, highlighting the role of governmental support, sports education, infrastructure development, and international achievements.
