
ENDANGERED LANGUAGES AND REVITALIZATION EFFORTS

This article examines the critical issue of endangered languages, exploring the criteria for classification and providing global statistics on language endangerment. It highlights the multifaceted causes of language endangerment, including sociopolitical factors, globalization, and cultural assimilation, and discusses the profound consequences these losses have on cultural identity, knowledge systems, and biodiversity. Furthermore, the paper reviews various revitalization efforts undertaken worldwide, emphasizing community-driven initiatives, educational programs, and policy interventions aimed at preserving linguistic diversity. By synthesizing current research and case studies, this article underscores the urgency of addressing language endangerment and advocates for collaborative strategies that empower communities to revitalize their linguistic heritage.
